Once upon a time I knew this guy's name. There is a story behind him, of sorts. A friend of mine had an idea for a series of children's stories, about a kid who travels around the world on — or in — this flying, jet-driven horse, meets with children in all sorts of different lands, and helps them solve problems that would be specific to the country or area they live in. I thought this was a wonderful concept, especially since she wanted me to do the illustrations for the series. But when I came up with this preliminary concept painting, she said, oh, no, it should be like a flying saucer! At that time I already knew that flying saucers were a bit old hat, but she wouldn't hear of it... And I lost whatever inspiration I had about the whole thing. I guess she did, too, since I never heard anything more about it. But I've often thought about it since, and rather wish one of us had been a bit more flexible.
