Anachronism
Anachronism

This oil painting was done sometime in the early 60's. I was and am a fan of the French Impressionists (ever see Yves Montand do Maurice Chevalier? Louis Jourdan do Marcel Marceau? Well, me neither. But seriously, folks...) so I thought I'd try something in that style. Fortunately for you, I never tried it again... Oh, the cigarette? I was smoking at the time. (Tobacco, that is... Cigarettes. Uh, huh. It's been a while. I was smoking filter cigarettes, but I figured I'd stay with the period I was illustrating.) Another painting style I like is trompe l'oeil... I actually have a real frame around the original of this painting, giving it the combined effect of a bigger, fancier one than you see here, and I even painted a few ash flakes on the real frame. It works for me.
